Our Core Values
LACF has six core values. They all consist of a short phrase, a Scripture reference, and a question to help us apply each one to our lives.
1. Committed to a Biblical Faith (2 Timothy 3:16-17): “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV). These two verses prompt us to ask an important question so that we can reflect on the ways that God is sharpening our lives of faith through His Word.
How is God’s Word impacting your faith journey?
2. Rooted in Luther’s Reformation (Romans 3:21-28): “All are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith” (Romans 3:24-25a, NIV). We are saved by grace through faith. That Truth motivates us to personally answer and hear other people’s responses to the following question.
How are you seeing God’s grace at work?
3. Spiritually Alive (Galatians 5:22-25): “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control… Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23a, 25, NIV). The fruits of the Spirit are life giving and bring to light a relationship driven question.
How are you living by the Spirit as you build relationships?
4. Mission Driven (1 Corinthians 9:20-24): “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings” (1 Corinthians 9:22b-23, NIV). The Apostle Paul emphasizes the importance of learning about and caring about people so that we can reach them and connect with them most effectively, which prompts this essential question.
How are you sharing the Gospel with people right where they’re at?
5. Disciple Making (Matthew 28:19-20): “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20, NIV). Jesus is sending His disciples to make disciples with the assurance that He is always with us. As the following question reminds us, disciple making means bringing people along.
How are you bringing people along as you follow Jesus?
6. Friendly Atmosphere (Romans 15:5-7): “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God” (Romans 15:7, NIV). Jesus has a heart for people. Proactively welcoming and encouraging people matters to those of us who desire to praise God with our lives. That’s why we ask a vital question.
